Rep. Steve Scalise: Ukraine whistleblower ‘has a political bias’

That “whistleblower” everyone’s been talking about doesn’t exactly fit the dictionary definition.

The anonymous intelligence official has been reported to be a highly placed CIA official with a possible political bias — and Republicans like Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) are already feeling deja vu from the Russia scandal. Once again, it appears that Democrats have pursued a partisan witch hunt against President Donald Trump based on faulty “intelligence” from shadowy Washington bureaucrats.

“It doesn’t meet the standard of a whistleblower, but more concerningly, the inspector general determined that this person has a political bias,” Scalise told Breitbart.

Whistleblower or “Deep State” bureaucrat?

The “whistleblower” has yet to step from behind the curtain, but his allegation that Trump attempted to “solicit” election help from Ukraine has become the basis of a national firestorm. The whistleblower’s complaint, released Thursday, claims that Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, and that the president had the transcript of his phone call “locked down” for some illicit purpose.

But reports about the so-called whistleblower have many asking why he should be trusted. The New York Times identified the whistleblower Thursday as a male CIA officer who the Justice Department said showed an “indicia of political bias” against the president, and as the whistleblower seeks to testify before Congress, it has emerged that his top lawyer donated to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign this year.

“By the way, guess who is lawyered up, right now? The so-called whistleblower has a lawyer that is a donor to Joe Biden,” Scalise said. “You can’t make this up. So you want to talk about Deep State-type connections, look at the fact this person, by the inspector general’s own determination, has a political bias.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) crossed the Rubicon Tuesday and launched an impeachment inquiry based on the whistleblower’s complaint — despite seeing neither the complaint nor the phone call transcript. Trump on Wednesday released the transcript, which Democrats said was “damning” despite a lack of evidence of a quid pro quo in the conversation, and the whistleblower’s complaint was released Thursday.

For his part, Scalise said that the Democrats are simply trying to overrule the American people with a sham impeachment, using the Ukraine scandal as a pretext. “Impeachment is a very powerful constitutional obligation that Congress is given as a check on an executive, not as a check on the electorate, which is what Nancy Pelosi’s using it as,” the congressman said.

Russia-gate Part II?

The whistleblower drama is proving to be an almost verbatim repeat of the Russia hoax, which similarly began with anonymous, unsubstantiated allegations in the “intelligence community” that leaked to the media. The whistleblower’s complaint, as the whistleblower himself admits, is based on second- and thirdhand information — just like the infamous Russia dossier — and includes a smattering of “evidence” from public media reports.

Emerging evidence of the whistleblower’s reported “bias” and employment at the CIA has only added to the sense of deja vu. A former longtime intelligence official has said he is “troubled” by the complaint, considering that Trump’s phone call was not an intelligence matter, as well as indications that Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) may have known about the complaint before it surfaced.

For its part, the White House is planning to soon release information revealing the “bias” of the whistleblower, The Washington Examiner reports. Meanwhile, President Trump and his allies have now begun to question if the “whistleblower” label is even appropriate, or if the complainant should be seen as a conspirator.

Unsurprisingly, Democrats and the media have rallied to the whistleblower’s defense, with Rep. Schiff accusing Trump of “witness intimidation” over private comments the president allegedly made about the official, according to The Hill. Even The New York Times is facing backlash from liberals for “endangering” the whistleblower by publishing identifying information.

But if the past is any indication, the whistleblower can probably look forward to a nice book deal or speaking gig at CNN when all is said and done.
