MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle mocks Mike Pence for calling his wife ‘mother’

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle shamelessly mocked Vice President Mike Pence Tuesday as he traveled in Ireland with his wife and mom, with the host wondering aloud which one he called “mother” when both were with him at the same time.

“If he’s traveling with his mom,” Ruhle asked on her show,  “Which one does he call mother?” It has previously been reported that Pence regularly refers to his wife “mother.” She is the mother to their children, after all.

Ruhle’s question came after the Washington Post’s Phil Rucker opined that it was “not normal” for Pence to decide to stay in a Trump golf resort on the emerald isle when traveling on official state business. “I mean a lot of his official meetings are in Dublin, that is not where he is staying,” Rucker pointed out. “Dublin is a big city, certainly they have hotels that could accommodate the vice presidential delegation.”

Pence’s explanation

The vice president made it clear that he was not directed by Trump to stay at the Doonbeg resort located about 200 miles from Dublin. Pence said he thought it would be easier for the Secret Service if he chose that location, since Trump had already stayed there earlier in the year.

By way of further explanation, Pence said he wanted to visit a distant cousin’s pub nearby and reconnect with his roots, but the press wasn’t buying it. As expected, mainstream media outlets impute ill intentions to Republican leaders in virtually every circumstance and continue their attempts to “get Trump” for corruption one way or another.

As Slate was quick to note, Trump stays at his own resorts every chance he gets, and surely there must be something nefarious about that practice. It couldn’t possibly just be a matter of Trump selecting locations with which he is both familiar and comfortable, could it?

Disprespecting Pence

To the left, being an honorable person is now worthy of mockery. That’s nothing new–Pence was also lampooned in 2016 for refusing to be alone with a woman other than his wife. Now, others are adopting the same practice in order to avoid accusations of impropriety amid the current #MeToo culture.

Pence’s family does not deserve to be maligned just because members of the media neither understand nor respect faithful Christianity or even just basic morality.

Although the media would love to get some real dirt on Pence, they know it’s probably not going to happen. Christians are susceptible to sin like anyone else, and they do fall. But the lack of anything objectionable thus far in his life seems to suggest that there’s nothing much to find in terms of scandalous transgressions from Pence’s past or present.

Instead of deriding him, the press should be holding Pence up as a man of integrity who follows through on his beliefs. But if they do that, they will have to admit that religion means something and that morality matters.

The media’s view of life is built on a different set of beliefs, namely that Christians are hypocrites who hate people who aren’t like them. When someone’s conduct contradicts that portrayal, the press sets its sights on destroying them.

It’s a truly appalling reality.
