Maxine Waters claims Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were ‘best friends’

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) is once again claiming to know things about the president that no one else is able to prove.

Just as she was so certain – and probably still is — that President Donald Trump colluded with the Russians, Waters is now confidently asserting without proof that Trump and disgraced billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were “best friends.”

Same old rants

Waters made the remarks Tuesday evening when she appeared on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes.

“The American people are sick and tired of this president who has a reputation,” she stated, launching into one of her characteristically unhinged rants against Trump. “Not only for being a con artist, but who has disrespected women. Talked about grabbing women by their private parts.”

The California congresswoman then claimed that President Trump and the convicted pedophile who took his own life in early August were, in fact, “best friends.”

“One of his best friends, who supposedly committed suicide in prison, was a pedophile. And he knew it because he even said he knew that he liked young girls,” Waters alleged. “Who is this awful, terrible man?”

If you say so, Maxine

At this point, the show’s host interrupted in an attempt to walk back what Waters was claiming.

“I don’t know if it’s been established that he was a best friend with Mr. Epstein, just to be clear,” Hayes said. “I’m just saying in the matter of Jeffrey Epstein you’re referring to, I don’t know it’s been established he was the president’s best friend.”

But, Waters remained adamant in her position.

“Oh, but he was, he was,” she insisted. “He was one of his friends and we’ve let him off the hook on that. We’re talking about Clinton and Prince Edward [Andrew?] and everybody else. All of them need to be called to respond to this, including the president of the United States. Yes, that was his friend. Let him deny it.”

Reality check

As Waters’ interlocutor attempted to point out, there is no proof that Trump and Epstein were “best friends,” let alone any kind of friends. We do have evidence, however, suggesting that the two men disliked each other, and court documents have also asserted that Trump barred Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago resort for sexually assaulting a young girl there.

A report from the Washington Post (certainly no friend to the president) further found that the two men had a falling out 15 years ago over a piece of property they both wanted. But, don’t tell Maxine about any of that — she already knows the truth.
