Post-Mueller, Rachel Maddow’s ratings sink to fifth place

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s ratings continue to fall in the wake of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s “no-collusion” findings.

“The Rachel Maddow Show,” once beloved by anti-Trump liberals, dropped to fifth place in the cable news ratings lineup with only 2.487 million total average viewers in July, according to Nielsen ratings data.

Adding to the sting, the top four spots for July were all filled by right-leaning Fox News shows. Sean Hannity’s “Hannity” took the #1 spot, followed by “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Laura Ingraham’s “The Ingraham Angle,” and “The Five.”

Collusion hoax fallout

Maddow’s nightly show soared to the top — and held it for months — in 2017. Liberals who hoped to see President Donald Trump quickly disgraced and dethroned tuned in nightly, thanks to her obsession with every tidbit and theory coming out of the Trump-Russia collusion investigation.

But once Mueller’s final report was released, finding no collusion, Maddow’s fans were left disappointed.

“Just how much damage has MSNBC in particular done to the left?” asked former MSNBC host Krystal Ball after watching Mueller’s testimony before Congress in July.

“I dare to say some talent did drink more deeply of the Russia conspiracy waters than others. Rachel Maddow, you’ve got some explaining to do,” Ball said.

And Maddow’s ratings reflected that disappointment — she lost some 800,000 viewers over the months since January 2019, the Washington Examiner reported.

In particular, “her decline in ratings over [March and April] corresponds to the end of the Russia investigation,” the Examiner noted.

Bad news for liberal TV

Liberal network CNN also received dismal news, according to Forbes: its morning show, “New Day,” performed at its worst in five years, plunging 18% among total viewers from the first quarter. It fared even worse with the advertisers’ key 25-54 demographic, dropping by 26%.

Could it be that the American people are tired of partisan #FakeNews, as Trump would say? Like the Democrats, the mainstream media swallowed any anti-Trump smear whole and spoon-fed it right back to their audiences.

Now that they’ve been caught out in a “Witch Hunt,” it looks like they’re paying a very real price.
