On Thursday, Ilhan Omar (D-MN) ran away from a New York Post reporter looking for answers about her alleged affair with a married man. And it was all caught on video.
A Washington, D.C. woman alleged in divorce filings this week that her husband, Tim Mynett, dumped her after declaring his love for Omar. Seeking answers, a reporter for the Post approached Omar before an event at the University of Minnesota, according to Breitbart — and like she has done when confronted with allegations of campaign finance fraud, tax fraud, and marriage fraud, Omar did her best to ignore the question.
The Democrat “nervously made a beeline to make small talk with a police officer who was standing outside the campus’ Mayo Memorial Auditorium,” the Post reported. Omar then ignored a second request for comment and headed inside for an event on “Black Maternal Health” with fellow “Squad” member Ayanna Pressley (D-MA). Take a look at the Post‘s footage:
Dodging the question
Omar has consistently evaded questions about numerous troubling allegations of misconduct. The latest scandal to engulf the Democrat erupted last week, when Beth Mynett, 55, accused Omar of having an affair with her estranged husband.
Tim Mynett provided political consulting services for Omar through his company, the E Street Group. Omar has paid Mynett’s company some $230,000 since 2018, including more than $20,000 in travel between April — when Mynett allegedly revealed the affair to his wife — and June.
In a divorce filing, Beth Mynett alleged that her husband’s “more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Rep. Omar than with his actual work commitments.” In addition to allegedly having an affair with a married man, Omar was accused Wednesday in a Federal Elections Commission (FEC) complaint of misusing campaign funds to pay for her fling with Mynett.
“If Ilhan for Congress reimbursed Mynett’s LLC for travel so that Rep. Omar would have the benefit of Mynett’s romantic companionship, the expenditures must be considered personal in nature,” reads the complaint from the National Legal and Policy Center. “Rep. Omar’s filings do not reveal subsequent reimbursements for Mynett’s travel.”
Stonewalling reporters
Before the latest allegation emerged, Omar was under increasing scrutiny for alleged tax, campaign, and marriage fraud. The Washington Examiner reported that Minnesota campaign finance officials ordered Omar to pay restitution earlier this year after she misused campaign funds on travel and legal expenses.
The campaign finance report also revealed that Omar filed taxes jointly in 2014 and 2015 with her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi, while she was still married to Ahmed Elmi, who some allege is her brother.
When confronted with allegations of wrongdoing, Omar has generally insisted that they are political smears motivated by bigotry, according to Fox News. In that vein, the Democrat wasn’t having it Tuesday when a reporter from a Minnesota CBS affiliate, WCCO, asked for comment on the breaking story that she had an affair.
“Are you separated from your husband? Are you dating somebody?” WCCO reporter Esme Murphy asked Omar.
“No, I am not,” she replied. “As I said yesterday, I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it.”
Unfortunately for Omar, she can keep dodging the questions all she likes — but that won’t stop concerned Americans from seeking answers.
