Fox’s Geraldo Rivera turns on Trump over Mississippi ICE raids

Fox News personality and fair-weather Trump supporter Geraldo Rivera blasted President Donald Trump on Wednesday over the recent ICE raids in Mississippi.

Rivera excoriated the Trump administration for arresting nearly 700 “hard-working, otherwise law-abiding” immigrants who entered the country illegally. “Almost 700 undocumented immigrant Ag workers arrested in Mississippi on Wednesday by #ICE, the largest single-state immigration enforcement in history. FOR WHAT PURPOSE? Hard-working, otherwise law-abiding workers-many with families here for decades-Now families are shattered,” Rivera said.

Media decries raids

The round-up has produced sensational coverage in the liberal media, much of it angled to make the immigrants look like victims of Trump’s cruelty. In the wake of the Wednesday arrests of hundreds of migrants at seven food processing plants in Mississippi, a video went viral in the media of an 11-year-old girl crying about being separated from her father, a worker at one of the plants.

The media narrative seems to be that illegal immigrants with “otherwise” clean criminal records are innocent victims of Trump’s heartless malice. Rivera echoed the same line.

Several of the migrants arrested had already been given deportation orders but ignored them. They will be deported swiftly. The migrants were brought to a Mississippi National Guard hangar for processing. ICE said that “all the illegal aliens encountered as part of this operation are either being placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts, and for those who already received due process and have been ordered removed, processed for removal from the U.S.”

ICE further explained that illegal workers often use the stolen identities of U.S. workers, “which can profoundly damage for years the identity-theft victim’s credit, medical records and other aspects of their everyday life,” so illegal labor is by no means a victimless crime.

Moreover, many conservatives have pointed out that any parent who is arrested for a crime is separated from their children. Liberals (and Rivera) seem to think that illegal immigration should come with no criminal penalties.

Rivera distances himself from Trump

This is not the first time Rivera has butted heads with Trump over immigration. The Fox personality last month criticized sweeping ICE raids, which failed to materialize, as a “terrible idea” for targeting “otherwise innocent undocumented immigrants.”

Rivera has also criticized Trump’s recent “go back” comments. The Fox personality said that he was “really saddened” by Trump’s suggestion that the “squad” —  four minority Democratic lawmakers — should leave the United States if they don’t love their country.

“I just hope it isn’t a glimpse at his soul. I just hope that he doesn’t really believe that every person of color comes from someplace else,” Rivera said.

Here’s the really callous notion: that it’s pointless to enforce the law and protect American workers from identity fraud, stolen jobs, violent criminals, and negatively impacted wages. When was the last time the liberal media drew attention to the plight of rural Americans suffering from the opioid epidemic and job losses? Where has the media been for the families of people killed by illegal migrants?

Is the United States supposed to burn the Constitution now because of some selective media outrage?
