An ex-Fox News reporter is teaming up with leftists to launch a new progressive website — and slamming Fox News for “partisan misinformation” at the same time. Journalist Carl Cameron blasted his former employer for skewing the facts in a promotional video for Front Page Live, which bills itself as an “antidote” to the Drudge Report.
“Over the years, the right-wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation. I left,” Cameron said.
Changing course
“Campaign Carl,” as he affectionately known by viewers, was a top reporter at Fox for more than 20 years before leaving in 2017. What in the world is a Fox News veteran doing working at a left-wing site? According to Cameron’s explanation, “it’s about facts, not partisanship.”
Of course. Progressives have the facts; conservatives are dummies. Cameron said he joined Fox when it was “fair and balanced,” but over the years, Fox ruined journalism with its “partisan misinformation.”
“I was one of Fox’s first hires. The idea of ‘fair and balanced’ news appealed to me. But over the years, the right-wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation. I left.”
Cameron boasted that, after working behind enemy lines for years, he understands how Republicans’ brains work. Also, Donald Trump is a conman who colluded with Russia. But Cameron is just going to share the facts — no spin!
“I have a unique insight and understanding of how the right operates and literally 30 years of covering Donald Trump,” Cameron boasted.
Endorses collusion conspiracy theory
Without taking a breath, Cameron delved into a rant about Donald Trump that hit all the usual, deranged left-wing media shibboleths: Trump colluded with Russia, democracy is under attack, and so on. While blasting Republican spin, Cameron endorsed what is arguably the biggest conspiracy theory ever peddled by the media.
“Trump is a conman. He did collude and coordinate with Russia to get elected,” Cameron said. “This is a state of emergency. Our next elections and democracy are at potential risk.”
After spewing this lunacy, Cameron said his job as Front Page’s chief political correspondent will be to “inform — that’s it” and lauded the new site as “a powerful resource for anyone who wants real facts over partisan propaganda.” Cameron added that the supposedly propaganda-free site will include “act now buttons” for people to get involved in various progressive campaigns.
Progressive Drudge Report
Cameron is teaming up with left-wing climate blogger Joseph Romm of ThinkProgress to launch the site, which aims to be a liberal version of Drudge Report. Romm told the Washington Post that he views the site as a progressive “virializing engine.”
A cursory glance through the site gives an idea of its slant. The site uses hashtags like #Trumpublicans, which appears to highlight stories about Republicans in a disparaging light, and #ClimateCrisis to spotlight progressive content.
“Finally, progressives have a site dedicated to helping diverse voices and content go viral, and a news source that reflects the values of the majority of good people on our amazing planet,” the site itself reads.
The Shepard Smith beat
It looks like Cameron is carving out a niche as a Fox reporter who saw the light and realizes now that conservatives are bad, but can use his expertise as a former Fox journalist to fight for the “truth,” which is the sole province of progressive clickbait engines like his new website.
But Fox host Mark Levin said that he doubts the authenticity of Cameron’s conversion experience: “Carl Cameron used to show up at conservative social gatherings when he was a reporter for Fox News. He was very comfortable hobnobbing with conservatives. His alleged disgruntlement with Fox & his new liberal site belie what I personally witnessed.”
Of course, Cameron is not the first Fox anchor to go full-blown leftie. Maybe he can get Shep Smith a job?
