Tucker Carlson calls for Democrat Reps. Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell to resign

The long-awaited final report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller was finally submitted to the Department of Justice on Friday, but while the public may never see the full contents of the documents, one thing is clear: there was no collusion.

Now, Fox News host Tucker Carlson says it’s time for those in Washington to be held responsible for the rumors they spread about the president over the last two years. In particular, he called on two prominent anti-Trump Democrats, California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, to resign in disgrace.

Time to resign

In a seven-minute monologue on his primetime Fox News show on Friday night, Carlson stressed that not a single American was indicted over collusion with the Kremlin, which is exactly the crime the special counsel was probing for. And now that Mueller’s report is in and no more indictments will be handed down, Carlson says it’s time for Dems like Schiff and Swalwell to pay up.

After playing a handful of clips of former government officials and prominent Democrats touting their Russian collusion theory, Carlson focused his efforts on Swalwell — the “original collusion truther.” Carlson played a clip of Swalwell making the baseless claim on CNN that “Trump was part of a criminal campaign, a criminal transition and now presides over a criminal presidency.”

“What’s criminal is what just happened,” Carlson said, noting that in addition to Mueller’s investigation, there were also two separate congressional investigations into the collusion theory that come up short — one of which Swalwell was a part of. “And in the end, they found nothing.”

Carlson went on: “This has been a disaster. How can we let the people responsible for it continue as if it never happened? How can Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff keep their seats in the House of Representatives? They should resign.”

Carlson calls for consequences

Carlson’s commentary on Friday matched seamlessly with what he said in a monologue the night before, prior to news breaking of Mueller’s report being complete. On Thursday, Carlson called out numerous prominent Democrats who had pushed the collusion narrative for two years, including Schiff, who is chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

Schiff said in one clip played by Carlson: “I think there’s plenty of evidence of collusion or conspiracy in plain sight.”

A moment later, the Fox host played a clip of Swalwell suggesting that merely asking questions that ran counter to the Democrats’ collusion narrative was akin to the treasonous act of doing the “bidding” of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He then played another clip of Schiff, who similarly denounced Carlson’s questions about the collusion narrative and suggested that the host was “carrying water for the Kremlin.”

“There need to be consequences for this,” Carlson said. “Once the Mueller report appears and it becomes incontrovertible that, whatever his faults, Donald Trump did not collude with the Russians, the many people who’ve persistently claimed on the basis of no evidence that he did collude with the Russians must be punished.”

He went on to say they shouldn’t be “indicted or imprisoned, but thoroughly shamed and forced to apologize.”

And perhaps forced to resign, as well.
