DANIEL VAUGHAN: The media’s prejudice against Israel is showing

Much as we’ve focused in on how certain elements in the Democratic Party are pushing their party towards anti-Semitism and against Israel, the media is following suit. The media focused heavily on criticizing President Trump’s declaration of accepting Israeli ownership over the Golan Heights and criticizing Israel for firing rockets on Hamas targets.

If you took these U.S. media reports at face value, you’d think Israel was the one instigating upheaval in the region.

But the reality is far from those reports: Hamas is the one doing the instigating while attacking Palestinians protesting the terrorist group ruling over them. Israel has had legitimate claims to the Golan Heights since the 1960s. And the anti-Semites, whom the press laud when they attack Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are strangely quiet when Hamas and the PLO get exposed as bad actors.

Let’s start with something you probably haven’t seen reported much in American media. Early in March, hundreds of Palestinian protestors took to the streets to object to Hamas’ rule over them. Hamas, a terrorist organization, funded by Iran, seized control of the Gaza area and imposed harsh Islamic law on Palestinians in 2007.

When Hamas took over, Israel and Egypt moved to blockade the terrorist organization, to prevent it from arming itself. Instead of using the resources to help Palestinians, Hamas is using what money it does get to arm itself and launch rockets into Israel. Ordinary Palestinians are left behind in the process:

‘Our sons and daughters have lost 12 years of their lives. For what? Each son of a Hamas official owns an apartment, a car, a jeep, a building…While our sons have nothing at all,’ an enraged Palestinian woman said in a video posted to social media last week. … Since consolidating power in Gaza, the terror group has imposed its draconian rule on the population, built a formidable weapons arsenal, dug and equipped several dozens of attack tunnels, and launched three wars against Israel.

You know who got quiet about Hamas attacking Palestinians, journalists, and others while trying to shift blame to Israel? American Representatives Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic Party’s newest stars, who have no problem criticizing Israel, seem to have lost their tongue when Palestinians protested the group oppressing them: Hamas.

Instead, that trio seems more interested in lobbing anti-Semitic bombs instead of advocating for Palestinians. Not even the far-left Jewish publication The Forward, which attacks Israel regularly, can defend their actions. The Forward says the Omar and the rest aren’t doing anyone any good through their actions.

The common retort from the left is that Israel is causing all the problems with the blockade of Gaza, and Hamas in general. The Palestinian people wouldn’t suffer so much if Israel didn’t blockade and attack them, the narrative goes.

Here’s the problem with that line of thought. Hamas isn’t spending a dime on Palestinians, and you can hear that from the protestors. Whatever resources Hamas gets it gives to its terrorists in the region or buys weaponry to attack Israel. And in turn, Hamas is brutally putting down any protests and suppressing journalists.

Hamas is a terrorist organization, funded by Iran, for the express purpose of killing Jews — just not attacking Israel — but specifically eliminating Jews. Israel has no reason to negotiate or give resources to a terrorist organization that has no interest in assisting the people it’s taken over.

And as if defending or ignoring Hamas’ atrocities wasn’t enough, the media has the gall to attack Trump over his support of Israel’s control of the Golan Heights. It’s not Trump who is ignorant here — it’s the media and anyone opposing the move.

Israel gained control over the Golan Heights, which sit on the Syria-Israeli border, in the 1967 six-day war. Syria, along with several other countries, launched a series of military offensives against Israel. In a swift and decisive response, Israel pushed them back and won ground in the Golan Heights, West Bank, and Gaza. Ever since that war, Israel has used the Golan Heights area to defend themselves from further Syrian strikes.

Trump recognizes the political and legal reality of the Golan Heights for the past 50+ years, and that reality is that Israel owns the Golan Heights. And because of the strategic value of Israel owning that land, the region is safer for it.

The reality doesn’t match the narrative that the media and anti-Semites want to push: that “evil Israelis and Jews are destroying the Middle East.” Hamas is the force abusing and destroying the lives of Palestinians, and given their financial influence, Iran is also contributing. The anti-Semites in Congress don’t care one iota for Palestinians. They run with whatever the public relations arm of Hamas tells them. And to top it off, recognizing the political reality of the Golan Heights is a strategic win for the U.S. and regional stability.

That’s the reality. The press can run all the negative pieces they want about Israel, Netanyahu, or Jews. But those aren’t the facts — the fact is that the media’s bias is showing, and looking more like the prejudices of Ilhan Omar and not some latent desire to help Palestinians.
