TMZ caught up with Rosie O’Donnell on the streets of New York and asked her how she felt about Donald Trump’s chances in 2020. She didn’t mince words.
The Trump-hating comedienne predicted that Trump will lose his re-election bid — because he’ll be in jail.
Rosie: Trump heading to jail
TMZ reporters encountered O’Donnell as she was making her way to a cab in New York, and they dove into an impromptu interview. When asked if she thinks Trump will serve two terms, she said, “No, I do not.”
“I certainly do not. I think he’ll be arrested,” she added.
“Do you think it’s actually going to happen though?” a reporter pursued.
“Yes, I certainly do. I believe in America and I believe in our political system and I believe we will right the wrong of the tyranny of Donald Trump.”
She also said that the wall will “never happen.”
Watch below:
Long-standing feud
O’Donnell and Trump have a long-standing feud running over a decade. O’Donnell has often demanded Trump’s imprisonment, recently wishing that he “rot in jail.” She has called him the “dumbest human living” and a “creepy fascist,” and demanded in October that the military march to the White House to “get” him.
For his part, Trump has called Rosie a “mentally sick woman, a bully, a dummy and, above all, a loser,” adding, “other than that she is just wonderful!” When Megyn Kelly asked Trump at a presidential debate in 2015 about insulting comments he made towards women, he quipped that “only Rosie O’Donnell” was a target of his remarks.
Wishful thinking
Rosie is not the first or the last to predict Trump’s imprisonment. The media has been prophesying Trump’s downfall since before he was even elected, creating a boy-crying-wolf scenario that makes it difficult to tell when legal threats against him are actually serious.
The left has talked more confidently about Trump’s imprisonment since his former attorney Michael Cohen implicated him in campaign finance allegations last year.
Then last week, the New York Times published a bombshell report about a nothingburger investigation; the FBI opened a counter-intelligence inquiry into Trump to see if he was a foreign agent for Russia on the basis of vaguely friendly things he said about Vladimir Putin.
To many Democrats, Trump’s crime is just that they don’t like him, but he would need to be impeached and convicted of a specific crime for Rosie’s fantasy to materialize. Wanting something isn’t enough to make it true.
