Trump tells all in ‘hot mic’ moment at G20 summit: ‘Get me out of here!’

President Donald Trump seemed to be in a rush to get off the stage during a photo-op at the 2018 G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina over the weekend.

Instead of sticking around to take a picture with Argentina President Mauricio Macri and other world leaders as planned, Trump was quick to exit stage left — and though he was off camera, his microphone was still on, and the U.S. president could be heard saying: “Get me out of here!”

Where’s my exit?

President Trump was in Argentina on Friday and Saturday to attend the summit, which is described as a “leading forum of the world’s major economies that seeks to develop global policies to address today’s most pressing challenges” on its official website. At the summit were representatives from 19 countries and the European Union (EU), many of whom were present to see Trump’s accidental early exit on Friday.

His stage departure, combined with his unplanned “hot mic” remarks, left reporters covering the summit laughing while an aide rushed to usher the U.S. president back onto the stage for the photograph.

Take a look at the full exchange for yourself:

Trump eventually made it back to the stage to take the group photo, which included over two dozen world leaders.

Lost in translation

Never one to succumb to the niceties of international diplomacy, Trump made headlines more than once on Friday for not sticking to the status quo. Prior to the photo faux pas, Trump struggled with his translation earpiece during a conversation with Macri, wherein the Argentinian leader offered some kind words to Trump in Spanish.

“It’s a great opportunity to thank you…for the huge support we have received from the United States and from your government, especially during this past year,” Macri told Trump. “We’ve been going through some difficult times.”

But Trump appeared unable to understand Macri, no doubt due to a difficulty with his earpiece, which he couldn’t seem to get to work quite right.

“I think I understood you better in your language than I did on this,” Trump said, tossing the device away. “But that’s okay.”

But while Trump may have had some difficulties with technology in Argentina, it was far from an unsuccessful trip for POTUS 45: Trump made significant progress on a new trade deal between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and even negotiated a temporary truce with China at the economic summit.

Trump might be an unconventional world leader, but his brutal honesty and genuine humanity are what got him elected in the first place. We can’t blame him for telling it like it is — even when he doesn’t know he’s on a hot mic.
