Former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien subjected herself to a well-deserved social media ribbing after she ludicrously proclaimed that President Donald Trump only visited troops in Iraq over the Christmas holiday because he was publicly shamed into taking the trip.
In a sarcastic response garnering nearly 30,000 “likes” on Twitter, Fox News host Brit Hume humiliated his ex-CNN rival in a scorching rebuke. “Yes, Ma’am,” he said. “Trump read this tweet when it was posted and time-traveled himself back to yesterday and flew to Iraq. Genius take.”
Brilliant!
First, the liberal mainstream media prematurely reported that Donald Trump would be the first president since 2002 to skip a Christmastime visit to troops stationed overseas. Then, reporters were forced to backpedal and issue retractions after discovering that Trump and the first lady departed the White House during the late hours of Dec. 25 for Iraq.
NBC News, MSN, Newsmax, MSNBC, The Daily Beast, Complex Magazine, and the HuffPost were just a few of the dozens of outlets reporting that Trump broke a 16 year White House tradition by visiting with American service members on Christmas Day. But Trump would act like the Grinch who stole Christmas from the left when he made an unannounced trip to Al Asad Airbase in Iraq.
To justify their abysmal reporting, the mainstream press sought to portray the outing like a clandestine CIA operation — because how else could so many journalists get the story so abhorrently wrong? “President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were quietly whisked out of the White House under the cover of darkness on Christmas night for a trip to Iraq,” wrote CNN.
Speaking too soon
Before news of this super-secret overnight mission was published, however, liberal darling and out-of-work actress Alyssa Milano shared an NBC News story trashing Trump for ostensibly breaking with presidential tradition by failing to meet with troops.
Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops at Christmastime. https://t.co/VEyyij9B0S

Enter Brit Hume, Fox News Channel’s senior political analyst, who took Milano to task for groundlessly slandering the president.
By the time this was posted, the President and Mrs. Trump were in Iraq with the troops. https://t.co/g9ACNO5hxn

It was at this point that O’Brien deemed it appropriate to insert herself into the conversation. “Shaming [Trump] seems to work,” she offered. Hume’s response was incontrovertible.
Yes, Ma’am. Trump read this tweet when it was posted and time-traveled himself back to yesterday and flew to Iraq. Genius take.

A real first
Trump followed up his warzone visit to Iraq with a trip to Germany, and was received warmly by the troops. Rather than celebrate the occasion, though, the perpetually backbiting media stirred controversy again by suggesting that Trump was politicizing the military by signing red MAGA hats belonging to several service members stationed in Iraq and Germany.
The president dismissed the controversy, tweeting, “If these brave young people ask me to sign their hat, I will sign. Can you imagine my saying NO?” and adding that he had not distributed the hats.
Melania Trump’s Iraq visit was the first time an acting first lady has visited a combat zone since Lady Bird Johnson traveled to South Vietnam in 1969. But don’t expect this historical footnote to be featured in any mainstream media headlines.
