The US Senate is set to take an initial vote on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh on Friday, in a crucial test of whether the federal judge has the votes to be confirmed to the supreme court.
Senators will vote mid-morning on a procedural motion that, if successful, would pave the way for a final vote as early as Saturday. A failure to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination would deliver a potentially fatal blow to Donald Trump’s embattled supreme court pick, who has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
