The following stories are examples of this week's Election Roundup of 22 down ticket stories covering Sunday 9/23 through Saturday 9/29.
(FL-01) “Tell me what boy hasn’t done this in high school”: FL-01's Jennifer Zimmerman has answers for Sosa
Sosa immediately came under fire for challenging the validity of holding teenagers responsible for sexual assault. Her subsequent appearance on CNN, during which Sosa further normalizes sexually violent behavior by doubling down on her earlier claims, resulted in even greater criticism. Sosa makes a number of highly controversial statements in her crusade to dismiss the seriousness of Kavanaugh’s suspected atrocities, including, “We’re talking about a 17-year-old boy, in high school, with testosterone running high. Tell me what boy hasn’t done this in high school. Please—I would like to know.”
In the aftermath of Sosa’s problematic comments, FL-01 Democratic House Candidate Jennifer Zimmerman chose to publicly speak out. The constituents of Florida’s 1st congressional district may have welcomed clarification from her opponent, Republican firebrand Matt Gaetz, whose stance on supporting victims of sexual assault is murky at best. After all, Gaetz himself drew criticism earlier this year after he struggled to defend Congressman Jim Jordan against sexual abuse allegations by claiming his victims were affiliated with “the deep state.”
(MD-Gov) Vote Ben Jealous for governor. Larry Hogan (R) refused to investigate Kavanaugh.
Larry Hogan (R) is governor of Maryland, one of the bluest states in the nation. He presents himself as a “moderate” Republican. But this moderation does not extend to investigating credible accusations of sexual assault against a man nominated by Trump to the Supreme Court. Since the alleged crime occurred in Maryland, Hogan’s view does count.
Ben Jealous is the Democrat running against Larry Hogan, but for some reason Hogan is still leading the polls in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2-1. Hopefully, Maryland voters will realize what is at stake in this election and vote Hogan out.
Jealous has the endorsement of a wide range of Democrats including Indivisible, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, 350.org, several major unions including the Baltimore Teachers Union and SEIU, Working Families and Our Revolution. You can volunteer for him here.
(CO-06) This is how to take on attack ads (and Repugs) and win!
Take a look at three videos. Jason Crow (D) in Colorado’s Sixth District is going to take down Mike Coffman (R) after many have tried, and here’s how it’s done — take note all Dems in purple-ish districts. First, tout your own bone-fides, and play to basic Democratic party values (and take on the relatively timid military record of your opponent.
I just saw all three of these ads on local media in Denver stations. No ads from Coffman on at all this evening. Jason Crow is up by 11 points now ( NYT poll ), and the lead may grow. We may finally get rid of Coffman and his “independent” image that is just that — smoke and mirrors. He’s a Trump policy supporter, and good riddance. Crow was an early supporter of replacing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and spoke at the 2012 convention. He supported Mark Udall in his failed 2014 re-election, but won’t fail this time.Sunday 9/23 - Saturday 9/29

Rescues since 2006 (13,099)
Welcome to Election Roundup, formerly known as Election Diary Rescue. Look for this down ticket collection every Monday through the election. The Roundup team has compiled and linked down ticket stories since 2006. Archives
Election Roundup gives down ticket stories a second chance for exposure and hopefully encourages people to write about contests that interest them, knowing their stories from the previous week will be listed every Monday.
The ER team scans every DK post and republishes applicable stories to our Election Diary Rescues list which only contains down ticket work. We have been republishing since early this year so there is a wealth of writing there, please enjoy.
Format and Tags Writers can help the ER team and readers by identifying the race in the beginning of the title like this: (NY-Sen) (FL-14) (GA-Gov) (AZ-StSen) (MN-StHs-07). Readers will be scanning a list of stories and this standard method of quick identification is really helpful.
This edition of Election Roundup was made possible by the following: eeff, Jax Dem, Joieau, zentrainer, turbonerd and randallt.
