Donald Trump held another mind-bending 80-minute press conference Wednesday chock full of bizarre tangentials and non sequiturs, but one thing that became abundantly clear is the sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh are deeply personal from Trump and, indeed, inextricably linked to him. Although Trump at one point declared himself open to pulling Kavanaugh’s nomination and said he wanted to hear testimony Thursday from Kavanaugh accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, he also grew visibly defensive amid the grilling. Here’s just a few of the things Trump said while fielding questions from reporters about Kavanaugh and his own challenges with being repeatedly accused of sexual assault. (I’m not going to bother trying to make coherent sentences out of these, btw.)
"Here, there was nothing to investigate,” Trump says of directing the FBI to investigate the allegations, “they don't know the location, they didn't know the time, they didn't know the year, they didn't know anything.” "I've been accused. False accusations."' "I have had a lot of false charges made against me." ”I've had numerous accusations about me—I mean, they made false statements about me, knowing they were false. I've never met 'em. I never met these people.” “I’ve been accused by I believe it was four women… four or five women who got paid a lot of money to make up stories about me. We caught them. And the mainstream media refused to put it on television." (***No, no one had any idea what Trump was talking about and it turned out he lied anyway.) On Democrats: "It's a big, fat, con job. And they go into a room, and I guarantee you: they laugh like hell." “And then you have this other con artist, Avenatti, come out with another beauty today." "When you are guilty until proven innocent – it’s just not supposed to be that way." "In this case you're guilty until proven innocent. I think that is a very very dangerous standard for our country."Catch some of the key moments below.
