A nationally renowned attorney for gay and transgender rights committed suicide at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park this Saturday by setting himself on fire to protest global warming.
When authorities arrived on the scene after being alerted to his remains by joggers and runners, they found the charred corpse of attorney David Buckel and a typed suicide note.
“Pollution ravages our planet, oozing inhabitability via air, soil, water and weather,” the note read, according to The New York Times, which reportedly received its own copy of it at 5:55 am.
“Most humans on the planet now breathe air made unhealthy by fossil fuels, and many die early deaths as a result — my early death by fossil fuel reflects what we are doing to ourselves,” the letter continued.

Buckel rose to prominence in the 2000s as the marriage project director and senior counsel at Lambda Legal, a law firm that fights on behalf of the gay community.
During his tenure at the firm, Buckel spearheaded a case that eventually led to the New Jersey Supreme Court recognizing the alleged right of gay couples to the same legal protections as married homosexual couples, as noted by the New York Post.
He likewise served as a lead attorney in a lawsuit based on Brandon Teena, a transgender man from Nebraska who was raped and killed in 1993. Because of Buckel, Teena’s family won additional damages from their local law enforcement agency over its negligence.
After Buckel retired from the organization, he reportedly became obsessed with environmental causes and, it would appear, left-wing dogma.
n his suicide letter, the deceased gay rights attorney spouted veritable liberal talking points about so-called “privilege,” saying that he himself had been privileged with “good health to the final moment,” and suggesting that he owed it to the world to suffer.
“Honorable purpose in life invites honorable purpose in death,” he wrote.
This type of thinking dominates the left, which has sought to divide people into privileged oppressorsand unprivileged victims. Many on the left also suffer from an unhealthy preoccupation with trying to solve the alleged problem of man-man global warming.
That Buckel took his own life just to bring the theory of global warming to the public’s attention is both sad and disturbing. It’s also perhaps a warning regarding the risks inherent in becoming obsessed with anything, including the liberal agenda.
