As President Donald Trump touts his administration’s role in brokering a historic agreement between Israel and a pair of other Middle Eastern nations, some other public figures are seeing their words come back to bite them.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry, for example, asserted in 2016 that Palestine’s involvement would be vital in attaining a sustainable deal and that a “separate peace” in the region would be impossible, as reported by Fox News.
“I want to make that very clear”
As the outlet noted, the Obama administration official said at the time that it was a “hard reality” that Palestine and other Arab states must be addressed collectively.
“There will be no separate peace between Israel and the Arab world,” he said. “I want to make that very clear with all of you. I’ve heard several prominent politicians in Israel saying, ‘Well, the Arab world is in a different place now. We just have to reach out to them. We can work some things with the Arab world and we’ll deal with the Palestinians.’ No. No, no, and no.”
Kerry went on to claim that he had recently “talked to the leaders of the Arab community,” who assured him “there will be no separate peace with the Arab world without the Palestinian process and Palestinian peace. Everybody needs to understand that. That is a hard reality.”
Those remarks resurfaced on Wednesday amid news of the so-called Abraham Accords that made the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain just the third and fourth Arab states to normalize relations with Israel.

“Dawn of a new Middle East”
For his part, Trump heralded the “dawn of a new Middle East” during remarks at the White House on Tuesday.
Of course, Palestinian leaders have expressed their outrage in response to the groundbreaking deal and that nation’s ongoing conflict with Israel remains unresolved.
Rockets launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel this week were believed to have been Palestine’s response to the agreement.
Nevertheless, other leaders throughout the region and around the world are expressing optimism regarding the progress — and the president has indicated that a number of other countries are poised to join the accord.
Whether today’s Democratic Party wants to admit it or not, Trump seems to have accomplished what Kerry deemed impossible.
